Concept & Development

The style of The Dark Cut is built on control, clarity, and contrast. The layout is disciplined and axial, with strong sightlines that guide movement through zones of light and dark.

Defined linear pathways emphasize a precise and methodically planned path, revealing mysterious private alcoves only to those intended to see them.

Materials like blackened steel, charcoal stone, and dark-stained wood are paired with narrow beams of light that sculpt the space.

Light is used strategically to define forms and accentuate focal points, while the plan itself emerges through the shadows.

The strong power of control that the Imperial Regime held was a strong influence for how this space was laid out. A lot of information is on a “need-to know” basis with high levels of security clearance and exculsivity. By keeping the staircase and mezzanine out of plain sight, diners would feel this same sense of exclusiveness and importantance as if they were a high ranking officer. The pathways that are clearly defined by color, space, and lighting reflect the importance of strictly following orders, while the consistent presence of red lighting represents the observant eye of Vader, constantly watching. All of these elements work together to turn a a dinner here into a whole experience, not just a meal.
