Mugler Branded Hotel - Executive Suite

The design of the executive suite of the hotel for the fashion brand Mugler, that is expanding past its retail market to create a “branded” hotel. The ultimate goal was to create a fully immersive branded hospitality experience.

Founded in 1974 by French designer Thierry Mugler (1948-2022), the brand approached clothing design in a theatrical way inspired by his background as a dancer.

Common themes in his designs include:

armor, sculptural & exaggerated silhouettes, futuristic & fantasy influences, feminine empowerment, and movement.

Thierry Mugler created the first ‘naked dress’ in his Autumn/Winter 1995 collection. Since then, he was known for celebrating women’s bodies in a a slightly provactive, feminine way, while adding elements to his clothing that still made the women feel powerful.

Concept & Development

Veiled Power

Inspired by the work of Thierry Mugler, this executive suite explores transparency as a form of power. Drawing from Mugler’s use of sheer fabrics, cut-outs, and fluid forms, the space balances exposure and structure.

Transparency is expressed through layered materials, and controlled sightlines, creating moments where space feels both open and intentionally framed. Sheer and reflective surfaces soften transitions while still maintaining a sense of precision and authority, echoing the tension in Mugler’s designs between fluidity and sculptural form.

The result is an environment that feels light and ethereal at first glance, but ultimately grounded in confidence, presence, and control to mirror the empowered quality of Mugler’s fashion.

Material Selections

When selecting materials for this project, sheer & transparent, as well as reflective, materials were chosen to emphasize the overall concept of transparency as power.

A highly neutral, flesh-tone inspired color pallete was also chosen to emphazie the idea of transparency and play on the idea of the “naked” dress used as inspiration.

Similar considerations were taken when selecting furniture, using pieces with cut-outs & negative space to represent these ideas when transparency in material was not possible.
