Material Selections

Influences from both the natural landscape and the rich history became integral pieces of the design for this residence.

A large indoor/outdoor pool as well as the incorporation of greenery and use of raw, natural materials throughout the home help blur the lines between indoor and outdoor, while the height adjustable pool floor and motorized glass exterior wall make the space suitable for New York, while still keeping the feel of the tropical environment.

Inspired by both the Ancient Maya tradition of textile weaving and the Spanish colonial design influences common in the country, bright, saturated, colors and geometric patterns are found throughout the home to pay homage to these traditions.

A majority of furniture and decoration for the home was sourced directly from Central America to make the family feel at home in their new environemnt and pay respect to their culture
